Rays Spring Training Update, Day 13: Rays Tie Pirates 1-1; Brandon Guyer, John Jaso and Nick Franklin Injured

The Tampa Bay Rays walked away from Bradenton with a 1-1, extra inning tie against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Saturday. There wasn’t much offensive production to speak of, save for a Steven Souza double in the fourth inning and an Evan Longoria double in the sixth — which the Rays couldn’t convert into runs — and an eighth inning solo shot off the bat of Corey Brown; the Rays only run of the game.

The New What Next: Royals vs. Giants — A World Series Primer

It’s all come down to this; two Wildcard teams are in this year’s World Series, and I couldn’t be more excited. For the San Francisco Giants, they are once again playing for the championship in an even-numbered year, while the Kansas City Royals haven’t made the playoffs in 29 years, yet they swept the Angels and Orioles to go 8-0 in the playoffs to make it to the World Series. The Royals became first team in MLB history to win their first eight consecutive postseason games following their 2-1 victory Wednesday in the ALCS series finale.

The New What Next: Royals vs. Angels — An ALDS Primer

After a good number of well executed sac-bunts, seven stolen bases, and a 12th inning act of heroics from Salvador Perez, the Kansas City Royals find themselves as participants in this year’s ALDS against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Suffice it to say, the Angels became an indestructible force this season. Tacking on 20 wins to its 2013 total, Los Angeles earned home-field advantage through the AL playoffs, boasting a pretty powerful lineup which includes some guy named Mike Trout — maybe you’ve heard of him.

The New What Next: Rays vs. Indians — the Final Series

The funeral procession that is the Rays’ season will conclude this weekend in Cleveland, where Tampa Bay is slated to take on the Indians in a three-game set. Any hopes of a positive outcome to the season came to pass days ago, and we’re left with an overwhelming desire to just nail the coffin shut. Thursday night’s 11-1 loss to the Red Sox certainly didn’t help.

The New What Next: Rays vs. Red Sox — Take Six

The end is nigh. Six road games separate the Tampa Bay Rays from a long off-season – the death knell of their first non-winning season in six years. First stop Boston, where they’ll take on the Red Sox in the sixth and final series against the two AL East foes.
