Rays Rule-5 Draft Roster Crunch; Opening Series Schedule Change

Friday is the deadline for teams to set their 40-man rosters ahead the Rule 5 Draft. (They also have to set their Triple-A and Double-A rosters for the minor league phase.) As it stands, the Tampa Bay Rays have a full 40-man roster with several top prospects not yet protected from other teams. In short, expect several moves to be made between then and now.

While Matt Silverman and the Tampa Bay Rays made no acquisitions during the meetings, the perception is that the groundwork for some deals may have been laid. On November 6, the Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a six player trade with the Seattle Mariners, which sent RHP Nathan Karns, LHP reliever C.J. Riefenhauser, and minor league outfielder Boog Powell to Seattle. In return, Tampa Bay received INF/OF Brad Miller, 1B/DH Logan Morrison, and RHP reliever Danny Farquhar.

Looking Backward While Moving Forward: Rays Walk-It-Off Against the Jays, 4-3; More on Archer, McGee, and Kiermaier

The Tampa Bay Rays rallied for a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the ninth on Saturday, subsequently walking away with a 4-3 walkoff victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. It was just their third walkoff win of the year. At 79-82 on the season, and with a game left to play, the Rays look to end the 2015 campaign Sunday afternoon with 80 wins.
