Hot-Stove: Trade Discussions Surrounding Jake McGee Are Intensifying

Trade discussions surrounding Tampa Bay Rays’ LHP reliever Jake McGee have intensified over the past 24-to-48 hours reports Jon Morosi (FOX Sports). Both McGee and RHP reliever Brad Boxberger have drawn significant interest, and several have suggested that half of the back end duo is likely to be moved.

The Rays ‘pen has been in a state of flux this off-season. Gone are Joel Peralta and Cesar Ramos, two relievers many grew to love (or hate, you choose). They were also dealt a setback, albeit temporary, with the injury and subsequent surgery on closer Jake McGee. In turn, a few experienced arms have been brought in and to deal with the flux. As of now, a little more than a week before the start of Spring Training, as many as 11 players are vying for a role in the later innings.

Hot-Stove: Rays Avoid Arbitration with Eight Players, Sign Five to Minor League Deals

Heading the January 16th arbitration deadline, Tampa Bay had eight arbitration eligible players they hadn’t reached an agreement with, and until 1:00 PM to sign a deal, or settle in court. As I reported earlier on Tumblr, the Rays were able to avoid arbitration this afternoon with those players — John Jaso, Kevin Jepsen, Jake McGee, Logan Forsythe, Desmond Jennings, Rene Rivera, Alex Cobb, and Drew Smyly.
