Looking Backward While Moving Forward: Archer Gives Up Five Runs In Rays Loss

If I had to sum up Saturday’s Rays and Indians game in a sentence, it’d go something like this: The Rays 5-0 loss to the Indians was a tale of pitching, both good and not so good. On the side of good pitching lies the Indians starter Ubaldo Jimenez and the Rays long reliever Alex Torres. On the other side of the coin lies Chris Archer, who couldn’t make it out of the fifth inning cleanly.

Looking Backward While Moving Forward: Rays Rally in the Ninth to Beat the O’s 10-6

Going into Saturday’s game against the Orioles, I almost forgot what it felt like to be on the other end of a blown save win (or loss, depending on your perspective). After all, the Rays have blown so many leads — and subsequently wins — thus far, it almost seemed inconceivable that the opposite could be true. But low and behold the opposite was true this fine day, as the Rays came from behind to score six runs in the ninth to win their second consecutive game against the O’s by a score of 10-6. Hot-Stove: The state of the pen without JP Howell

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last week, you’ve more than heard that JP Howell got picked up by the LA Dodgers for a cool $2.75MM. Sorry to break the news to you this way if you hadn’t heard. I will miss Howell, though I don’t think the Dodgers recent acquisition represents …

Hot-Stove: David Price, among other things

Doom and gloom peppered the sports talk radio and the six o-clock news formats, following the announcement that the Rays and David Price were able to avoid arbitration. Just in case you just emerged from your December 21, 2012 doomsday bunker and missed the news, Price signed a one-year $10.1125MM contract earlier this week. Now …
