The Tampa Bay Rays made a flurry of roster moves today ahead of the series finale against the Red Sox, in Boston.

The Rays promoted OF Josh Lowe from Triple-A Durham and activated both 1B/DH Ji-Man Choi (left hamstring strain) and RHP Matt Wisler (right middle finger inflammation) from the 10-day IL. In order to make room for them on the active roster, the team placed OF Randy Arozarena on the paternity list, optioned RHP Louis Head to Durham and designated RHP David Hess for assignment following a disastrous 2 IP/6 R outing to close out last night’s contest.

Lowe, 23, is one of the top prospects in Tampa Bay’s farm system, slashing .282 BA/.369 OBP/.540 SLG/.909 OPS with 21 HR on the season, with a 138 wRC+ across 412 plate appearances and 98 games. He is also a competent runner on the base paths, swiping 24 bases in 24 attempts with Durham.

Lowe may not be up for long though since big RAAAAAAAANDY Arozarena is set to return from the paternity list on Saturday. He, however, could be back before season’s end — especially if he makes a splash in his debut — and is clearly a big part of the Rays’ future.
