The Tampa Bay Rays announced their Opening Day roster Saturday afternoon.

Of note, the battle for the two open spots on the roster ― between four players; OF Mikie Mahtook, and pitchers Dana Eveland, Andrew Bellatti and Danny Farquhar ― has been sorted out, with Eveland and Farquhar earning spots on the 25-man. As result, Mahtook and Bellatti have been optioned to Triple-A Durham.

Rays President of Baseball Operations, Matt Silverman, said Mahtook was optioned to Durham because the Rays are expected to face a lot of right-handed pitching in the early going. With the Bulls, Mahtook can play everyday until a need for the outfielder with the big league team presents itself.

Per Marc Topkin (Tampa Bay Times) the Rays will wait until the Sunday noon roster deadline for resolution with 1B James Loney, whom they told earlier in the week he will be either traded or released.

The roster, in its entirety, can be seen above.
