The Tampa Bay Rays overcame a 2-0 first inning deficit against the New York Yankees for the second consecutive game. The team got a terrific performance from the bullpen and a key defensive gem from Kevin Kiermaier Wednesday night, as they eked out 3-2 win at the Trop. With the win, Tampa Bay is now 19-16 and just two games out of first in the AL East.

Looking Backward While Moving Forward: Rays Rally Late, Beat NY 4-2

The Tampa Bay Rays bounced back against the Evil Empire on Tuesday, rallying scoring two in the seventh and the eighth off starter Nathan Eovaldi to beat the Yankees, 4-2. Thanks to the late rally, the Rays earned back the game they lost to the Yankees on Monday.

There isn’t much to say about Monday night’s Rays/Yankees contest under the big top. El Caballo left too many pitches in the zone and the Yankees made him pay. All four of the Yankees homers against Colome came with two outs, and New York’s hitters had some pretty comfortable swings against the Rays starter, who really didn’t make strides to knock them off the plate and reclaim the zone. While Colome threw strikes – 99 pitches, 67 strikes (68% K%) – they weren’t quality strikes, resulting in eight runs through six innings.
