Looking Backward While Moving Forward: Rays Clobber the O’s 8-0, Take the Series

On a day aptly titled the Goddamn Deluge, the Tampa Bay Rays jumped all over the Baltimore Orioles in a four hit shutout shellacking, demoralizing their AL East foes by a score of 8-0. Tampa Bay has been able to leapfrog Baltimore in the standings, now claiming sole ownership of third place by a half game. Just two-and-a-half games behind the AL East leading Boston Red Sox, the Rays will look to sweep their second consecutive series against the Orioles Sunday afternoon.

The New What Next: Rays vs Indians, A Series Preview of Sorts

The Rays have made up an enormous amount of ground in the AL East — five games to be exact — in the last week, and they’ll attempt to take the series from the 29-24 Indians. The Tribe has struggled lately, having won only three of their last 10 games. However, Cleveland is 17-10 at home and has won their last two games. Furthermore, they’ve won 15 of their last 19 at home, outscoring opponents 105-64. All this is to say, it won’t be easy. Saturday marks the 2013 debut of Chris Archer, who is filling the void left in the wake of David Price’s DL stint.

Looking Backward While Moving Forward: Rays Win 7-6 In Walk-off Fashion

One thing was evident upon entering the 2013 Citrus Series: The Rays needed to beat the Marlins. Without going into the why’s (editors note: I think the “why’s” are fairly obvious), the Rays have been successful thus far, snagging the first two games away from the Fish, while ending their most recent home-stand with a 3-2 record. The second half of the Citrus Series begins Wednesday at Carnival Cruise Lines Field…urm, Marlins Park.

Looking Backward While Moving Forward: Rays Rally in the Ninth to Beat the O’s 10-6

Going into Saturday’s game against the Orioles, I almost forgot what it felt like to be on the other end of a blown save win (or loss, depending on your perspective). After all, the Rays have blown so many leads — and subsequently wins — thus far, it almost seemed inconceivable that the opposite could be true. But low and behold the opposite was true this fine day, as the Rays came from behind to score six runs in the ninth to win their second consecutive game against the O’s by a score of 10-6. This summary could be broken into three chapters: The Hernandez Innings, The Torres Innings, and The Ninth Inning. Looking Backward While Moving Forward: Rays Avoid Disastrous Comeback, Take Game One

The Tampa Bay Rays were ultimately able to walk away from Friday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles with their heads held high, even if the outcome was less than operative. We should all be thankful that the Rays offense was able to step up, tagging the Orioles for 12 runs on 17 hits and five walks. After all, both Jeremy Hellickson and Kyle Farnsworth did something that they’ve been want to do all season, give up a sizable number of runs late in the game. I’ll go more in-depth below, in a segment I like to call The Good, Bad, and the Argyle: A Game Summary.
