The Rays will take on the Minnesota Twins for the fourth time this spring, in their first night game of the Grapefruit League season. Tampa Bay is 3-0 in the Knutson Cup so far, as they attempt to pick up another win from Ron Gardenhire and the Twins.

On the bump for the Rays will be Roberto Hernandez, who has made a solid bid for the fifth spot in the starting rotation. Vance Worley will get the start for the Twins.

Tampa Bay cleared out the roster a bit today, reassigning or optioning eight players to the minors. Tonight’s starting lineups, the aforementioned moves, and other pieces of Rays related ephemera are below.

Noteworthiness:

  • The Rays cleared some space on the roster Monday, optioning Alex Colome, Mike Montgomery and Frank De Los Santos  to Triple-A Durham. LHP Enny Romero was optioned to Double-A Montgomery, while LHP Felipe Rivero optoined to Class A Charlotte. Three other pitchers not on the 40-man roster were reassigned to minor-league camp: RHP Matt Buschmann, RHP Marquis Fleming, LHP Adam Liberatore.
  • Well what d’ya know, Luke Scott is back in the lineup in the DH role and hitting sixth. Desmond Jennings is back in there too, leading things off. Both are coming off of minor injuries.
  • Reliever Cesar Ramos returned to camp Monday following a stint in the WBC with team Mexico. Ramos, in an interview with Rays beat writer Marc Topkin, said the overall experience was good, and the brawl with Canada (was) both “crazy” and “scary.”
