Colby RAYSmus? Could it be?

Supposedly the Rays and Cards are in talks to move Colby Rasmus from under the arch to the Sunshine State.  At 24 years old and making under half a million a year right now, it definitely fits it the Rays wheelhouse.  Batting average at .246 right now doesn’t look like much, but slugging percentage was a tick under .500 last year and OPS at .859 last year (and .742 right now) doesn’t suck.  Young potential at a great deal.  Not a bad addition, probably.

The swap?  Well, likely a Hellickson or a Wade Davis type.  Someone in the same caliber, but a different position.  And with Alex Cobb making his way up a couple times this year, he may be primed to take the vacant spot.

You heard it hear first, folks!  Unless you were watching the same bullshit on TV that I was….in which case you heard it there first just like I did.  But it sure seems more important when I say it.

  1. It’s doubtful, not to mention that this was a rumor from last year that for some reason has raised its head again.

Essentially, the Cards were willing to trade Rasmus for Helly last year, but the Rays baulked at the idea, and rightly so. To that end, in order for Rasmus to be considered a legitimate trade prospect, the Rays would have to deal Upton in which case one of those fancy three way deals would on the docket. I’d also think that the Rays would be more interested in dealing Niemann or Davis at the moment than they would Hellickson.
