The New What Next: Rays vs Red Sox – A Series Preview of Sorts

The Rays will make their way to Boston Tuesday to start a big three game series against the Red Sox, following a disappointing series loss to the Kansas City Royals. I cannot emphasize enough that the next two series are incredibly important — the Rays have an excellent opportunity to gain at least a game on the Red Sox, while also getting a chance to bury the Yankees. It is incumbent for the good guys to make sure they’re clicking on all fronts: pitching, defense, and hitting. That all starts Tuesday.

…More on Wil Myers

A friend of X-Rays Spex penned the piece below and was gracious enough to let me re-post it here. Let me predicate things by saying there hasn’t been a need for Wil Myers on the 25-man roster, nor has there been room. However as the season progresses, and the offense ebbs and flows, holes have opened up (at least on paper) showing where he could benefit the Rays at the plate. That still doesn’t detract from the fact to that you’d have to shuffle players around, or release someone from his contract in order to make room for Myers. That said, in light of Luke Scott’s 7-for-59 woes at the plate, the call for Myers has ratcheted up 10-fold. Perhaps it’s time to end the Scott experiment, and bring Myers to the bigs? Ian touches on all things Wil Myers below.

Looking Backward While Moving Forward: Hernandez, Rays Roll to 8-3 Victory Over the Sox

Despite tossing 117 pitches, Joe Maddon elected send Hernandez back onto the mound in the eighth inning. What followed was a thing of beauty. After getting ahead of Dustin Pedroia, Robo plunked the Chris Elliot lookalike on a 1-2 pitch, feigning a reaction as the ball connected with Pedroia.

Per Jim Bowden, Rays Will Call Up Myers In A Little More Than A Week

A quick, applicable, story. I was at Fergs last Wednesday night, along with — what seemed to be — every other Pinellas County Schools employee. Rays beat writer Marc Topkin was also there along with his wife, taking in the night’s end of the school year festivities. While watching Alex Cobb dominate the Tigers on one of the various televisions broadcasting the game, Topkin was peppered with a common question by many a few strangers, “When is Wil Myers expected to be called up from Triple-A?” His answer: Not in the near future.
