While the trade rumors surrounding Ben Zobrist continue to mount, multiplied in kind are the questions of whether Matt Silverman would attempt to move Zobrist before the start of the season, and who the Rays would get in return if he was dealt. Personally, I don’t see the team moving Zobrist until the Rays are firmly out of contention.

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman announced a possible agreement for the Rays to explore new regional stadium locations Tuesday morning. While the potential deal should be considered a huge step forward, the addition of any termination agreement to a contract (or in this case, a memorandum) is a complicated matter — especially when you factor in some of the less-than-popular terms which would be set in stone pending a yes vote by the St. Petersburg City Council.

The Rays roster currently sits at 38, meaning before tomorrow night’s midnight deadline, Matt Silverman and company need to figure out a way to add five-to-six prospects they’re protecting from the Rule 5 draft. C Justin O’Conner, OF Mikie Mahtook, INF Ryan Brett and pitchers Matt Andriese and Adam Liberatore are the most promising.
