The Rays completed a 3 game sweep of the Houston Assholes (that team re-naming was a little too easy). Beginning with yet another magnificent pitching performance by James Shields, followed by a no-slouch performance by Wade Davis, then the firework offense on Sunday, and this has been a great weekend of baseball! Evan and BJ both got their bats a-swingin’, Joyce and Kotchman have continued some of the most impressive (and most surprising) consistent hitting in the league.
I know it’s not even the all-star break yet, but the last week plus have got me flat-out excited about Rays baseball right now. We’ve gone 8-1 in the last 9 and we’re back within 2 of the top of the division. And even better than that, these guys are playing damn good baseball. Damn impressive baseball. Fiery bad-ass baseball. And I love it!
In come the Reds and the return of Jonny Gomes to the Trop. I, for one, can’t wait to see the guy again. I always had a good feeling about him and I kinda feel like he got the shaft in ’08 when he was left off the playoff roster. Especially since (I would argue) his brawler/defender antics gave the team a few adreneline shots that year. One thing is definite…I’m sure as shit not boxing the dude.
