The consensus No. 1 prospect in all of baseball will be promoted on Tuesday.

June 22, 2021 update:

The Rays have officially selected the contract of Wander Franco, who will start at third on Tuesday and bat second. Wyatt Mathisen has been designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

Clearly in need of a spark after dropping six games in a row, the Tampa Bay Rays are preparing to call up top shortstop Wander Franco before the beginning of their upcoming series against the Red Sox.

Franco, 20, has been a wunderkind for Triple-A Durham this season, slashing .315 BA/.376 OBP/.601 SLG/.977 OPS/.414 wOBA with seven homers, 35 RBI and a 155 wRC+ in 39 games.

Per Marc Topkin (Tampa Bay Times), the infielder was told the news as the Bulls were busing from Norfolk, Virginia, to Jacksonville for their next series. Franco, the switch-hitting, No. 1 prospect in baseball, instead, will head to St. Petersburg.

The Rays optioned RHP Drew Rasmussen to Durham in order to add the infielder to the active roster, although a 40-man roster move will also need to be made.
