Noteworthiness

  • Neither James Loney or Yunel Escobar are in the lineup tonight. Loney is on three-day paternity leave  (congrats to Loney and his wife Nadia, the proud parents of a baby boy, Jordan James), while Escobar is mending from a minor hamstring strain. Ben Zobrist is handling the short-stop duties, while Kelly Johnson is holding down the fort at first. JThere’s been no definite word on when Loney or Escobar will return, though it’s expected they’ll be back in the lineup this series.
  • ICYMI, Alex Cobb will make his first minor league rehab start on Tuesday, pitching for the Class A Charlotte Stone Crabs. He threw a 59 pitch simulated game Tuesday, saying afterward, ”It went well… It was nice to get out there and see competition again.” Cobb incurred a minor concussion after being struck in the right ear by an Eric Hosmer line drive on June 15.
  • David Price will go toe-to-toe with Esmil Rogers tonight. You can read about the pitching matchup here.
  • Going into tonight’s game, Baseball Prospectus has the Rays with a 74.1% chance of making the playoffs, and a 50.9% chance of making it to the ALDS. It all starts with a win in Toronto.
