I have never been a huge fan of Mr. BJ Upton as a Ray. Aside from his one bit of “Greatness” back in 2007, we have had nothing but problems with this baseball “prodigy”. From the giant chip on his shoulder, to his lackadaisical play in the field and on the base paths, BJ has been nothing but an overpaid festering boil on the Rays backside. I don’t care if you steal 40+ bases a season, if you are getting burned by a can of corn to deep center field, or getting tossed out at second on an easy double because you wanted to watch the ball. You my friend aren’t worth your career 168 SO and .256 BA per season.
I know what you are going to say… But he looks so cute in those pajamas, plus he makes those awesome catches in center field when he wants to!
Well I can’t argue with that, but I decided to take few minutes to run some number to see how BJ’s numbers compare to some of his Triple A brethren:
I think at this point it’s clear that Desmond Jennings deserves a shot at the show.

We are now 1/3 of the way through the season, and although we are still keeping above the .500 mark we need to start looking at some alternatives for the team. BJ has yet to show any consistency at the plate, and I’m so tired of watching him stare at strike three and arguing with the Ump. I think it’s high time we give BJ that send-off that he has clearly desired for the last 6 years.
